Recreation Programs

Carteret County Parks and Recreation's Recreation Programs Division runs year-round programming that promotes the well being and health of County citizens. The department is proud to serve as the Carteret County sanctioned agency to run local games for North Carolina Senior Games and as the designated County agency for Special Olympics of North Carolina. Surfia's Boot Camp

BootCamp Same old cardio workout? Surfia offers a new and creative way to get your heart rate pumping! She is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer who offers workout classes in the fresh air at Swinson Park. To register bring the completed waiver to class. Camp Sunshine

Camp Sunshine is a Summer time week-long day camp for citizens with intellectual and/or physical challenges designed to be educational, healthy, and fun. Depending on the session, participants may tour the Maritime Museum, take a boat trip with Duke Marine Lab staff, walk a trail or ride horses, or camp out overnight.

Jamborees
These dances are held once a month on Wednesday evenings from 6pm to 8pm for citizens with intellectual and/or physical challenges at the Fort Benjamin Park recreation center, 100 McQueen Ave, Newport. Each dance has a different theme and offers two hours of socialization, dancing, and snacks. For additional information, call 504-4263. The schedule follows:
