This new County facility opened mid-April 2011. The 4 year project was funded by County taxpayers, a grant from the North Carolina Parks & Recreation Trust Fund and an Eat Smart Move More community grant through the County Health Department. The park is built on 11 acres deeded to the County through an agreement with the Board of Education which included major upgrades to Newport Middle School ball fields, construction of field lights, concession stand and the 6 tennis courts that are built on park property. County Parks and Recreation will manage and schedule park amenities and school fields; County Public Works and Public Building department will maintain both properties.

County citizens and non-profit/civic groups are encouraged to reserve portions or all of the recreation center, band shell, and picnic shelters for their use. Reservation requests on appropriate forms with fees included must be turned in no later than two weeks prior to the date requested for use. Tennis courts will be reserved only for school teams and tournaments with the public welcome on them at all other times. For information about reserving fields go to our Reservations page. |
